How It All Started On August 6, 1929 workers began building a hydroelectric dam across the Osage River near the tiny town of Bagnell in the Ozark plateau of mid-Missouri. Now the lake's shores stretch from Bagnell Dam in the town of Lake Ozark to 92 miles in a northwesterly direction to the dam on Truman Lake. There are more than 40,000 boat docks along its shorelines and upwards of 70,000 boats plying its waters on any given holiday weekend.
All Year Round! The Lake of the Ozarks area enjoys warm, sunny days in the summer, typically mild winters with enough snow to make it fun, springtime showers that are refreshing, and cool colorful autumns that are relaxing. When packing for your lake weekend, your rule of thumb should be “Anything Goes”, as the weather can change overnight. And don't forget your sunscreen!
